ACJC Melbourne Cup Eve Dinner

ACJC Melbourne Cup Eve Dinner

Members of the Australian Chinese Jockey Club (ACJC) gathered in Melbourne on Monday, 2 November 2026, for a special Melbourne Cup Eve Dinner at Yakikami Japanese Restaurant in South Yarra, generously hosted by ACJC member Roy Yu.

The evening brought together members and friends to enjoy delicious Japanese cuisine, good wine and wonderful company, celebrating their shared passion for horse racing ahead of Australia’s iconic Melbourne Cup.

A highlight of the evening was the discussion surrounding Vauban, who was set to contest the Melbourne Cup for the fourth consecutive year. Several ACJC members are part-owners of this remarkable racehorse, making his participation particularly exciting and meaningful for the Club.

At nine years of age, Vauban was approaching what was realistically expected to be his final Melbourne Cup appearance. Having finished sixth in the previous year’s race, expectations were high for another strong performance. According to racing insights shared by John Blight, Vauban was expected to acquit himself well, with a top-ten finish considered achievable. A third- or fourth-place finish would have been a magnificent conclusion to his Melbourne Cup career.

ACJC members also have an ownership interest in another racehorse, Royal Supremacy, adding further excitement to the Club’s involvement in this year’s prestigious racing carnival.

The dinner was a wonderful opportunity for members in Melbourne to reconnect, exchange racing insights and share the excitement of supporting horses in one of Australia’s most celebrated sporting events.

ACJC extends its sincere thanks to Roy Yu for hosting the gathering, John Blight for sharing his valuable racing analysis, and all members and friends who joined us for this memorable evening.

We wish all ACJC members involved in Vauban and Royal Supremacy the very best of luck. May the Melbourne Cup bring unforgettable moments and great memories for everyone involved!
